What is a Type IV Wastewater Treatment System?
There are 2 classifications for Type IV Wastewater Treatment Systems and they are categorized as follows:

  • A. Any system with an LPP distribution
  • B. Any system with more than 1 pump or siphon

What is the minimum wastewater system inspection and maintenance frequency for a Type IV Wastewater Treatment System?
2 times per year.

How often is the Wastewater Operator required to submit the monitoring reports for a Type IV Wastewater Treatment System to the local health department?
Every 12 months (once per year).

What is a Type V Wastewater Treatment System?
There are 4 classifications for Type V Wastewater Treatment Systems and they are categorized as follows:

  • A. Sand filter pretreatment system
  • B. Any > 3,000 GPD septic tank system with a nitrification field designed for > 1,500 GPD
  • C. Aerobic Treatment Unit (ATU)
  • D. Other mechanical, biological or chemical pretreatment plant (< 3,000 GPD)

What is the minimum wastewater system inspection and maintenance frequency for a Type V Wastewater Treatment System?
This inspection and maintenance frequency is determined by the amount of waste the wastewater system produces in a day, measured in gallons. The unit of measure is Gallons Per Day (GPD). There are many different frequencies outlined here, but your operations permit will disclose specifically what is required for your wastewater treatment system.

A. Sand filter pretreatment system is inspected as follows:

  • 2/yr (0-1,500 GPD)
  • 4/yr (1,500-3,000 GPD)
  • 12/yr (3,000-10,000 GPD)
  • 1/wk (> 10,000 GPD)

B. Any > 3,000 GPD septic tank system with a nitrification field designed for > 1,500 GPD is inspected as follows:

  • 12/yr (3,000-10,000 GPD)
  • 1wk/yr (> 10,000 GPD)

C. Aerobic Treatment System is inspected as follows:

  • 4/yr

D. Other mechanical, biological or chemical pretreatment plant (< 3,000 GPD) is inspected as follows:

  • 12/yr

How often is the Wastewater Operator required to submit the monitoring reports for a Type V Wastewater Treatment System to the local health department?
Every 6 months.

What is a Type VI Wastewater Treatment System?
There are 2 classifications for Type VI Wastewater Treatment Systems and they are categorized as follows:

  • A. Any > 3,000 GPD system with mechanical, biological or chemical pretreatment system plant
  • B. Wastewater reuse/recycle

What is the minimum wastewater system inspection and maintenance frequency for a Type VI Wastewater Treatment System?

A. Any > 3,000 GPD system with mechanical, biological or chemical pretreatment system plant is inspected as follows:

  • 1/wk (3,000-10,000 GPD)
  • 2/wk (10,000-25,000 GPD
  • 3/wk (25,000-50,000 GPD)
  • 5/wk (> 75,000 GPD)

B. Wastewater reuse/recycle system is inspected as follows:
12/yr

How often is the Wastewater Operator required to submit the monitoring reports for a Type VI Wastewater Treatment System to the local health department?
Every 3 months.
